Huntly Writers

Review of 2007 by Phyllis Goodall

2007 has been another successful year for the Huntly Writers.

Haworth and Maureen have had chapbooks published by Koo Press. Linda, Margaret and Phyllis continue to be published in the Leopard.

All the Huntly Writers read from their writings at a Wordfringe event on 30th May at Duff House, some of which the Friends of Duff House published in their newsletter, and on 2nd May some of them had scripts read by Turriff Stagecraft.

Annie continues to publish detective stories, and has written several scripts, some set in her American homeland.

In October Margaret won the first prize for the short story in the Doric Festival Competition and second prize for the poetry, and Linda had second prize for the short story. Phyllis, a three times winner of the overall Connon Caup may no longer compete at the Doric Festival, but a short story of hers has won the Deeside Writers' Competition and is a national runner-up.

Margaret has a third Scots poetry book about to come out, and her previous two are selling like the proverbial hot cakes in the restaurant at Deans of shortbread fame. She is also in great demand to read her poetry at Church Guilds and other events. She wrote a beautiful villanelle last year for Christmas, and has written another Scots poem for this year's Christmas Service.

A hearty welcome to our new members, Ruth and Chris, whose writings are adding a new breadth to our output.

(I'm affa sorry, Chris, I've written ower muckle in English ti tak up your suggestion ti hae a column in baith languages. Eence I get yoket vritin in Scots, I'm nae easy stoppet. There wid nae room on the ae page, or even in twa pages. Bit I'll dee't neisht time.)
