Wiltshire born, Aberdeenshire matured... mother of five and multiple granny. A virgin
writer — cutting her teeth on transcripts of a mega walk across Spain in 2010,
the Camino....
Naturally artistic, this new venture follows on from an extended painterly period,
adding a new facet of creative expression to her portfolio of life... an interesting
and unexpectedly exciting sideline to being a freelance gardener, yoga teacher and
Swedish masseuse.

Leaf or Lizard (extract)
Lucy Aykroyd
Inspired by stories of the Camino many years before, and by the tales of my children,
I had long held this walk as an iconic moment for me... out there somewhere, to
be undertaken when there was time. There never is time. I suddenly knew that I had
to make it and take it NOW... and in so doing, like in so many rites of passage,
it cost me dear....
...we climb and ‘bon camino!’ (the greeting to every fellow pilgrim
all day every day), a steady trickle of us, all sizes shapes and ages, panting and
grunting our way up the north side of the Pyrenees, through the damping cloud to
the clearest imaginable blue and sparkling air — wild white ponies, sheep
bitten turf and soaring birds — looking down on the cloud and up to the peaks,
stretching away and away — I never expected this — wow!
